DIRECT TV announced that it had become member of HomePlug Powerline Alliance, a recognised body world wide for powerline communications. As a member of the alliance DIRECT TV uses HomePlug integrated circuit solutions enabling customers to connect broadband services and home computers with their DIRECTV Plus HD DVRs to enjoy photos and music content on their TVs.

“The HomePlug Alliance is a leader in the powerline communications industry and HomePlug technology will help DIRECTV provide its customers with a robust entertainment experience,” said Romulo Pontual, CTO of DIRECTV, Inc.

DIRECT TV, undisputed leader in the Satellite TV industry is expanding its high-definition broadcast and announced that they will end up the year with 100 HD channels. A party is being organised and planned to be held in a giant hot pink inflated balloon parked down in the middle of the West Hollywood Park. This party is sponsored by DIRECT TV's high-definition Networks like MTV Networks,
A&E, FOX, NBC,
Showtime,
Disney, ESPN, the Weather Channel, and Turner Network Television.

DIRECT TV, the leading satellite TV provider in the country on its expansion of high-definition broadcast is expected to offer 70 channels by the end of October. To bring this much of HD channels DIRECT TV has already launched a Satellite and also MPEG-4 compression technology to maximize bandwidth efficiency. DIRECT TV has partnered with Harmonic to bring these HD channel. DIRECT TV will use Harmonic's MPEG-4 encoders to compress its new high-defintion channels.
