DIRECT TV, the leading satellite TV provider in the country, will start its high-definition expansion starting from second week of September. DIRECT TV will also include Fox News Channel which will be launched sometime in the first week of September. DIRECT TV has agreed to carry Fox news in its initial expansion.

When the Fox news is launched in HD, it will be available on the same channel 360 and if the HD viewer will get default Fox News HD on channel 360.

According to the DIRECT TV officials from wednesday they started offering local high definition channels in Mankato. DIRECT TV is now offering local HD broadcast in more than 60 cities, this will have a share of 70% of The US households. This is a part of nationwide expansion plan by DIRECT TV and to end up the year up to 75 markets and 100 national HD channels.

Eric Shanks, DIRECTV's executive vice president of entertainment in an Interview to tvpredictions.com said that DIRECT TV will likely to start 20 new high definition channels on the first day of its expansion. Further he said that the expansion will start on Sunday 16th September and he expects to start with 20 to 40 new HD channels. With the launch of satellite in June, DIRECT TV is planning to end the year with 100 new HD channels.

DIRECT TV settled an agreement with Big Ten to carry Big Ten Network and also announced that many games will be broadcasted in high-definition. DIRECT TV will carry Big Ten Network on channel 220 and will be available to all of its 16 million customers.

Other cable operators are claiming that Big Ten is demanding high programming fees as they are forced to pay $50 million annually. Comcast, which covers eight states and has over 5.8 million customers said that they have to increase the package fees to its subscribers. Even without Big Ten in their line-up Comcast feels that thay can bring more games for their subscribers.
