Some Charter Communications customers will see a rate increase in their March statements, the company announced Tuesday.

Customers who subscribe to value packages -- bundling services like digital cable and high-speed Internet, for instance -- will not see a change in their discounted rates for those packages, Sales and Marketing Director Brooke Sinclair said.

Sinclair couldn't guarantee those customers' bills would be totally unaffected, though, because of taxes and fees and other variables.

The customers most affected by the increase will be those who subscribe to only one service, typically basic or expanded basic customers. A rough estimate is that those customers will see their bills increase $3 to $5 a month.

However, Sinclair said, in some areas, the basic rate will remain unchanged. In others, it will go up $1 or $2. The same is true for expanded basic.

"There's no way to say how much a bill will go up," Sinclair said, because there are thousands of variations.

In a statement, company spokeswoman Lizz Walker said, "Times have changed, and a customer who subscribes to a single tier of service is increasingly rare."
